Have You Seen Our Writing?

We have written descriptions of fire and what a fireman wears and these are all on our Firewise display at the back of the classroom. Please come and read them because we know we are getting better at our descriptive writing.

The Art Exhibition

Yesterday Room 6 went to the hall to see the Art Exhibition. When we went in we saw Room 9’s clowns. I saw my brother’s clown. Then we saw some boxes of cities. I saw the Sky Tower and I saw a man. He had a rope tied behind him. Then I saw a speedboat. The sea was dark blue. We saw some faces. Some were boy clowns and some were girl clowns. Then we saw some buzzy bees and some fishes in a bowl of water. They were all different colours of fishes. We saw some hats with flowers at the top. Then we saw our puppets. I saw my pink one. It had my name on it.

Yesterday Room 6 went to the hall to see the Art Gallery. There we saw some nice drawings. We saw buzzy bees and cities. They were very colourful. They had the Sky Tower in some of the pictures. We had to put our hands behind our back and we had to be quiet because it is in the hall. Next we saw the puppets, they had strings on top. Then we saw our feeling faces. We had to draw our faces on a piece of paper. Then we had to vivid the faces on a magazine and they were old. After that we saw the goldfish in a bowl. They had orange and white stripes.

Our Taniwha Puzzle - It's Big!!

As a conclusion to our study on water and in conjunction with Maori language week we made a jigsaw out of a taniwha.

Mrs Emerson made the jigsaw and gave us each a piece of the puzzle to colour in with pastels. We made sure we used hot and cold colours and we were careful to completely cover our puzzle piece with pastel.

The taniwha has webbed feet and it has spikes on his back and Maori tattoos. When he was asleep he was in a pond.
Jerome

The taniwha has a big colourful body. It has a bit of curly lines on its back. It has sharp teeth like a tiger. It has a long curly curly colourful tail. It has sharp pointed feet. He lives in the precious pond. He looks very scary to kids. He has curly lines on his head.
Mele

The taniwha has eyes like a frog. It is a rainbow colour.
Jasper

The taniwha has sharp claws and a fat tummy. It looks stripy and curly at the end of its tail. The taniwha has puzzle kind of stripes. It has a fire on its head.

Sally from Watercare

As part of our Water unit we were lucky to have Sally come from Watercare to talk to us about how to look after water and to make sure that we don't pollute it. Here are some recounts about what happened when she visited.

On Wednesday Sally from Watercare came to Sunnybrae Normal School. We did an experiment with Sally and we went outside to see if the water would go up and down. We made tunnels for the water to go and we went so that it went under our legs. I was in Crocodiles and we made a track out of the rocks for the water. One group won the game of rocks and water.
 Mackenzie

On Wednesday Sally from Watercare came to Sunnybrae. We learnt about water. We went outside to make a river.
 Luka

On Wednesday Sally from Watercare came to Room 6. She mixed water with things she had in her box of stuff. Then we went outside and made rivers with sheets and rocks and watering cans of water. Then we had a race with the water. The sharks won, they got on the board.

What a Busy Week!!

Last week was so busy! On Monday we had a new student teacher come to our class. Her name is Miss McDonald and once we had got over the excitement of her name being the same as a popular place where we like to go to eat with our families, we enjoyed having her teach us and help us in our learning.

On Wednesday we had the first of several weekly tennis lessons, on Thursday we went on our Rainforest trip to the Waitakeres and on Friday it was Funky Feet day and the day we performed in our assembly with Room 19.

Here are a few photos to whet your appetites.

We will be doing a lot of writing this week about our busy Week 2 so there will be many more photos to come once we have written our recounts for you to read on this blog.

Soccer with Room 16

Last Wednesday as it poured down with rain we had a soccer coaching session with Room 16.
We played games and had a chance to release some energy.
It was great to have a soccer ball each and to try and dribble the ball from one side of the hall to the other without getting caught.

What's in the Red Box?

We did some writing on what we thought would be in a special red box that was on the mat in our classroom. We thought about all the things that could possibly be in there and here are some of our ideas.

Race Relations Day

We had perfect weather for Race Relations Day last Thursday.
We took a class photo of those of us in costume and then lined up with the rest of school behind the flags which represented our nationalities. Then came the parade where we were able to show everybody our costumes.
The rest of the day was spent playing games and making craft from different cultures.
