Sally from Watercare

As part of our Water unit we were lucky to have Sally come from Watercare to talk to us about how to look after water and to make sure that we don't pollute it. Here are some recounts about what happened when she visited.

On Wednesday Sally from Watercare came to Sunnybrae Normal School. We did an experiment with Sally and we went outside to see if the water would go up and down. We made tunnels for the water to go and we went so that it went under our legs. I was in Crocodiles and we made a track out of the rocks for the water. One group won the game of rocks and water.

On Wednesday Sally from Watercare came to Sunnybrae. We learnt about water. We went outside to make a river.
 Luka

On Wednesday Sally from Watercare came to Room 6. She mixed water with things she had in her box of stuff. Then we went outside and made rivers with sheets and rocks and watering cans of water. Then we had a race with the water. The sharks won, they got on the board.

Cloudy, windy
Dripping, cracking, flooding
In a storm it hails.

Our Rainforest Trip

I saw a waterfall at the rainforest and in the tunnel I saw some glowworms. I liked the tunnel and I learnt not to put your hand out the door.
Mackenzie

I saw some glowworms and they glowed in the pitch black. I heard a waterfall.
Jasper

I saw a big waterfall. I heard the trees blowing in the wind. I learnt where water comes from and water comes from the dam.
Gloria

I saw glowworms and I saw trees at the rainforest. I heard a bird.
Luka

I saw a waterfall at the rainforest and we saw glowworms. We went through the longest tunnel and it was 567 metres. I heard the waterfall and lots of noises.

What a Busy Week!!

Last week was so busy! On Monday we had a new student teacher come to our class. Her name is Miss McDonald and once we had got over the excitement of her name being the same as a popular place where we like to go to eat with our families, we enjoyed having her teach us and help us in our learning.

On Wednesday we had the first of several weekly tennis lessons, on Thursday we went on our Rainforest trip to the Waitakeres and on Friday it was Funky Feet day and the day we performed in our assembly with Room 19.

Here are a few photos to whet your appetites.

We will be doing a lot of writing this week about our busy Week 2 so there will be many more photos to come once we have written our recounts for you to read on this blog.

Soccer with Room 16

Last Wednesday as it poured down with rain we had a soccer coaching session with Room 16.
We played games and had a chance to release some energy.
It was great to have a soccer ball each and to try and dribble the ball from one side of the hall to the other without getting caught.

What's in the Red Box?

We did some writing on what we thought would be in a special red box that was on the mat in our classroom. We thought about all the things that could possibly be in there and here are some of our ideas.

Race Relations Day

We had perfect weather for Race Relations Day last Thursday.
We took a class photo of those of us in costume and then lined up with the rest of school behind the flags which represented our nationalities. Then came the parade where we were able to show everybody our costumes.
The rest of the day was spent playing games and making craft from different cultures.
